Fernando Cintra created this short animated film as his final project at Vanarts. I found it a bit too saccharine for my tastes, but visually it’s quite gorgeous.

I thought it was great! I don’t think
it’s too sweet. I like how it’s from
a kid’s perspective and that in his
ignorance he has hope that his ability
to paint can actually bring positive
change to a dark situation. So really
it’s unfounded hope, but at least the
kid did something out of the love for
his grandmom.

I find timing a bit annoying. A little details that could do a lot more for snappy storytelling. Also, I’m not very impressed with staging and framing. I think Fernando has lot to learn, still. But design is appealing and that’s good base. Promising short for student work, thou.
