J’adore Boutavant

boutavantSometimes being a parent clues you in to illustration you wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to. I discovered the delightful art of Marc Boutavant in the pages of Martha Stewart’s Kids magazine (one of the best designed magazines on the rack, incidentally). He’s been chugging away on French language books and comics ( like the sweet, sweet Ariol ) for the children’s market, so it’s understandable that I missed him for so long despite the fact that he’s so damn good.

I like his work a lot! I saw an illustration he did for the Globe and Mail a while back, and I had to find out who he is.

Hear, hear on Kids magazine — we’re saving the little inserts to give Emily when she’s big enough to read them instead of just crushing them to pieces.

Speaking of illustration you discover as a parent, you guys haven’t covered Miroslav Sasek yet, have you? I’ve got his basics (London, Paris & New York) on Emily’s wishlist — Amazon suggested them based on what was on her list already, I’d never heard of him. (They also keep suggesting The Mischievous Art of Jim Flora, funny enough.)
