This is a very well done painting and it looks as if the artist is traditionally trained. I don't agree that the breasts are disproportionate. If I were take any issue with it (and I do with reservation), I would say that, if anything, the bikini shouldn't have been included. We tend to be too sensitive and uptight regarding nudity these days. But any artist worth his/her salt has participated in figure (or life) drawing in which there is a nude model as a subject. Just because there's nudity does not imply sex or sexuality. This woman is not drawn in a pornographic style but a tasteful, more realistic one instead.

Breasts just don't tend to be as imobile and orbital as they're often portrayed in fantasy art--but it's a style--if anything that's what I mean by "defying gravity" the fact that this one happens to be underwater doesn't seem to change the way that particular part of the anatomy has been rendered elsewhere--it's all pretty consistant, underwater or above ground, this is the way he draws breasts. I feel kind of lame for dwelling on this, but idealized as these figures are, they're for the most part rendered naturalistically. Except for the implants. And why string bikinis? Putting a string bikini on something meant to seem otherworldly kind of detracts.

I think this guy's work is stunning. I didn't get the same feeling from this one that you two did. I don't have an issue with the anatomy, for one thing–if any part of her appears to be defying gravity, being underwater would explain that. You weren't bothered by the hair, right?
In fact, I didn't have a cheesecake reaction to this at all, what with her dead eyes and blank face–her sexuality seems to me to be presented in a creepy, even horrifying way, and not meant to titillate. Maybe this image works as a weird Rorschach test.
