John Cuneo

Gorgeous ink and watercolour illustrations and drawings by John Cuneo. Beautiful stuff. I love anyone whose final work has the spontaneity and looseness of a rough sketchbook. The dude can draw. (The section of his site with personal work may be a bit not-safe-for-work, so be warned.)

I love his work in Esquire. He has a wicked sense of humour.

Cuneo is great. Love his work. Very few illustrators can keep that ‘life’ in their final work like he can.

I love John Cuneo – his stuff always manages its way into the Communication Arts illustration annuals, and for good reason too. Very delicate work.

John is not only a fine illustrator, he also makes tremendously good guacamole.

I remember when my grandfather used to talk about him from art school.

I’ve known John personally for a short while now, and I can tell you that, among his friends, John’s sketches have consistently raised the question, “Does he draw these things because his mother was a bitch, or because he can auto-fellate himself?” My point is, there’s plenty of blame to go around.

PS: She was, and he can.

I went to the Colorado Institute of Art right after John Cuneo went there, and if I recall correctly, I think I remember meeting him when I went for a job interview in Denver after a frighteningly insane cab ride to the interview location. He’s quite an illustrator, in many ways his style reminds me of Buddy Hickerson… but then again, I’ve seen his style shift a bit over the years (as we all tend to do).
