Le Building

le building

Check out this very well animated, and very hilarious short film, Le Building, by Marco Nguyen, Pierre Perifel, Xavier Ramonede, Olivier Staphylas, and Remi Zaarour. Excellent integration of traditional and CG animation, and great character designs. (Yes, the pizza boy is completely CG.)

Le Building is an awesome short film animation directed by five directors: Marco Nguyen, Pierre Perifel, Xavier Ramonede, Olivier Staphylas and Remi Zaarour. The Draw! said that the animation integrates traditional and CG animation. Really hilarious, …

Yes, I was thinking that the first time I saw it. Notice all the little details in each of the people’s rooms, as well as the construction worker’s. Oh, and frame-by-frame it when the bus has to swerve — the people inside are pretty funny, too.

ha yeh it has something in common with Triplets of Belleville. I would say thats some “French Cartoon”-style but I really dig it.

This is just awesome — I’ve already watched it 5 times. Do the creators have a separate website?

Gobelins is a school in France. They’re known for their superb quality group student films. I’m assuming it is one of these due to the copyright, but I’m merely speculating. It’s well worth Frame by framing. Each frame is a beautifully composed illustration in itself.

For those people interested in this animation and the school, there will be a DVD magazine coming out with an exclusive interview with one of the creators of Le Building along with an insight into the school and the students work at les Gobelins. The magazine is called ‘DesignFlux’ and presents a wide variety of work within the field of motion design. The next edition should be out by the end of October

[...] Last year we posted a link to Le Building, a ridiculously fun short by students from Gobelins animation school in France. The student films of 2006 can be seen in this Gobelins gallery. The output of Gobelins is outstanding. It’s hard to believe these are student films (especially my favourite, the super bizarre Gnap Gnap). [...]

Yes, amazing what talented people can do! I noticed two things:
    (1) a TEAM of people produced it. There should be a real push to teach people how to work in teams. In fact, it makes a lot of sense to include a team building program in animation school programs.

    (2) It took the team FOUR MONTHS to do it. That’s where the strength of the team shows! They were committed to their film and this helped them stay the long course.
