llustrated Catalogue Of ACME Products

Anyone familiar with the world of Warner Brother’s classic animation, especially with Chuck Jones’s Roadrunner cartoons, knows that there’s one name you can trust when it comes to anvils, disintegrating pistols, giant rubber bands, and jet-propelled unicycles. That name is ACME.

Hey, did anyone else here (as a kid, mebbe an adult) ever wish that once, just once, that the coyote would win? Or am I just sour grapes?

you ever wish the bunny won, when it was the tortoise vs the rabbit…
heh im just joking around. yeah, i felt bad for the coyote, think of all the money he spent on gadgets that just backfired on him, id sue if i were him.

acme is the best, it was the simplest way to make people laugh without even saying anything at all

Jeope…nope, you’re not alone! Looney Tunes was my favorite cartoon growing up…as a matter of fact, I just bought both DVD box sets of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection…BUT I hate the Road Runner…wish he would get eaten at the end of every episode (am I sick?). Also, Twitty should be baked or fried.

Yeah, as much as I sympathized for the coyote, I felt ten times worse for Sylvester. I remember once he actually got Tweety in his mouth and I was ecstatic. Then that gramma KO’d him with a broom and the bird popped out. Curses!

I think that there was a time when the coyote caught Road runner but since it was Christmas he had to let him go to share Christmas spirit together. I saw this when I was young so I do not remember exactly how it was.

I just learned the origin of this all in an animation class I am taking right now. Back in the day, there were no standards for animation cameras and registration and all that. Every studio rigged up their own setup differently. The camera companies custom-built the equipment for each studio: Disney had one setup, Warner Bros. another, etc.

Along comes the Acme camera company! They decided to save themselves all the headaches, and give each studio one small, one-time headache of changing their gear. They created a standardized registration pegging system, made paper and cels to fit, and rigged their camera to work with all of it. You could get anything and everything you needed to animate your work, all from one place.

So the joke, in the Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons, is that you can get anything you need from the Acme company! I tell you, those animators are a funny bunch!
