Lowell Hess has a website

Illustrator Lowell Hess, whose career began in the 1950s, has a modest image-rich website put together by his wife. In addition to his marvelous magazine and advertising illustrations, the site is home to some of his wood carvings and pop-up paper work. For more, our pal Leif Peng contacted Mr. Hess back in 2005, and you can read the interview, and see more of his work at this archive of Leif’s blog.

Thanks to Mike Lynch for the link!

Thanks for this! Truly inspirational. It looks like he commonly used about 3 different styles but made each one his own. Beautiful work.

    What good news!
This is probably the first illustrator which I copied when I was less than five years old ( from his Alladin golden book).
I was often searching to learn (and see) more about him.
Thank a lot for your site !
(and sorry for the bad English)

Are you kidding me?!?! WOW! I was immediately taken at the first sight of his illustrations, but when I saw the wood carvings…UNBELIEVABLE! Those maquettes are not only beautiful,..but to think they were done by hand and carved nonetheless! What a gifted artisan! Thanks for sharing this wonderful info and link. I will definitely cover Mr. Hess in one of my future episodes of the “Behind The Lines” podcast on TalkShoe. He is certainly worthy of being spotlighted!!!
