Matthew Archambault’s drawing tutorials

Matthew Archambault teaches at the School of Visual Arts, and is now sharing his knowledge of drawing through some educational DVDs. On his site, and through YouTube, he’s sharing clips of his DVDs like this one of some of his drawing lessons. He’s a talented teacher, and explains things thoroughly and clearly while still allowing room for individual artists to develop their own style. The clips certainly whet my appetite to see more.

I tell you one thing after watching Art School Confidential, it mentally jotted my mind how things were in commercial art. Here were these bunch of teachers who were trying to teach us commercial art and they were so out of tune to what was going on in the later part of the 80′s. They seemed to be 20 years in the past. My generation was crippled in so many ways in art school because computers were just coming in to play a very important part in the arts. Now there is a point to this. It’s good to see Matthew Archambault expose his techniques and talent. Most of the teachers were just teachers who forgot how to draw and became lazy and lost touch with Modern art. I am sure there is a crop of them still teaching who could not get a job in the real world. Kids today have so much to generate good art from old and new teachers such as Matthew who goes out on a limb to bring his art. Well done.
