Menko Madness

menkoMenko are Japanese picture cards that are traded and collected like American Baseball cards. They are most often circular or rectangular and are also used to play Menko… a game that dates back at least to the Edo period. What I love the best about these are the cheap, raw production values and total disregard for international copyright law. You can find some really wacked out unauthourized versions of North American cartoon characters such as Popeye, Mickey Mouse, and, pictured here, Batman. Not too many places to look at these cool little chunks of pop ephemera , but this Australian dealer usually has a few sets and single cards for sale.
