Moira Hahn – neoJaponica?

I stumbled across this fantastic work today. No surprise, Moira has worked in animation, studied in Japan, and done work for the famed Pushpin Studios. I’m such a sucker for Japanese prints, and these are awesome.

Moira Hahn Winter Ghost Series - Tamago

There’s something a bit subversive about Moira Hahn’s work. There are little bits of humour that you have to look closely at to catch, like the cat with a fish’s tail in its mouth, or the Gilligan’s Island reference in her most recent work. This image is called Winter Ghost Series – Tamago.

Another great thing about her site is that she shows work going back to 1980! It is so rare for artists to allow us to see stuff that old – most of us judge our old work so harshly and hide it, even when it’s good like hers. But by allowing us to see this, we get to follow her development.

Hey..Moira rocks! She has an awsome way of translating the Japanese tradition with her narrative cats. She provided me with a great profile about a year ago, I posted it here: http://www.valentiger.com/profiles/profiles4/profile-Moira_Hahn.htm
She is really an artist to watch as she rises!
