Monster Engine

Setting out to answer the question, “What would a child’s drawings look like if painted realistically?” Dave Devries created Monster Engine, a book (and series of live presentations) in which he converts kids’ drawings of monsters into paintings. Lots of fun paintings on the site — be sure to click around for the other examples buried throughout.

    That’s rad– I’ve actually been meaning to go through my childhood drawings and try to find things to adapt. I drew a lot of trilobites, mostly, they were my fave.

    I didn’t know about Dave’s Devries work, it’s a very original idea and i find very interesting to work with kid’s draws. Nice to hear about and illustrator like that!

    such a good idea. i think picasso said that he aimed to get back to a childlike state of mind when he made art, i think this is step in the right direction.
