My Father’s Hand: the drawings of Samuel Wray

My Father’s Hand is a blog created as a tribute to Samuel Wray, father to Amanda and Bill Wray (Bill Wray previously on Drawn!).

Mr. Wray has done hundreds of drawings, but now suffers from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and can no longer hold a pencil. His daughter Amanda has started scanning and posting these drawings regularly. Most of them are simpler than the self portrait shown here, and display a very elegant economy of line. I look forward to seeing more.

Not only a great tribute to a father but also to a very fine artist. It’s taken me thirty years to come anywhere close to this simplicity and clarity of line.
