Natalie Kocsis

With regards to the shameless plagiarism case mentioned in the post below, I’m pretty disgusted with the marginalization of visual art in general. As if our work isn’t worthy of the respect other creators and researchers get. As it happens, I just wrote a letter of protest to the president of Stony Brook University, where I am a student, complaining of her unilateral removal of art from a campus wide arts festival.

Perhaps this is why I am so appreciative of Natalie Kocsis’ scrappy drawings – they perfectly express how I feel right now. Off with their heads!! Natalie says in her bio she is working on a book called Lucy Goes to Coney Island… I look forward to seeing it.

You go to Stony Brook?! GO Seawolves!

    (LOL)

Class of 2005. Cinema and Cultural Studies. Got more info on Strum Kenny’s latest evil deed? (C’mon, you know it’s not even her fortieth… ever hear about the CA scandals?)

Art, if you let them, will be made to seem the least important thing in the world. It never fails to amaze me the number of people who lead with ‘You are an artist / this isn’t about art…’ as though art were a frivolous distraction from ‘business’ and you wide eyed innocent. Without it we would be lost. I hope you nail this lot to the wall, good luck.

Well, I do have some good expectations about art’s future on my own. Considering the lack of information that our art students get (or just don’t get it at all) to qualify anyone with, at least, some courage to show any work, a genius; and being aware about what ‘fame’ really means(sudden death), we, art students (the real ones), should not feel, by any means, weak or less important for what we do. Just follow Chuck Close’s quote ‘get to work’ and add some good reading to it and you’ll see the magic happening. It still means something.
Work hard, read a lot, use your temper with intelligence. I guess that’s good enough to, at least, start with.
    Good luck.
