Omar Figueroa Turcios

I don’t know how he does it, but Colombia’s Omar Figueroa Turcios, in his caricatures, can capture a likeness with the most minimal of details and very abstract shapes. I was surprised how many faces I recognized without cheating by looking at the image’s label.

Since a loooong ago, I’ve know te work of Turcios, and he’s such a talent in illustration. But that talent is a result of his hard work. I’ve met him since he won at high school a national award on caricature. And then he have won a whole lotta awards. More than that, he’s as good person as good artist.

Conceptually solid work. I haven’t seen colored pencils used so well in a long time!

He comes from a town close to García Marquez hometown. He came to the cold Bogotá only to spread his wings and fly away, leaving us in awe. Now, wherever he goes, he still captures life using the same bright colors nature taught him to use here in Colombia. It’s really a pleasure to see his work discovered and shown to the world.

He is, and always was, a master in his craft.

Felicitaciones, maestro. Los que lo admiramos desde chico lo saludamos!
