The always-awesome BibliOdyssey has posted a great sampling of E.H. Shepard’s original Winnie the Pooh drawings. Seeing them again reminds me how charming and perfect they are, and it almost makes one forget the now-soulless Disneyfied versions.

Beautiful little line drawings, I just love Shepard’s work.
$88,000 US is awfully expensive no matter where you come from, but if you only have more like $30,000 to spend you could own a letter and drawing penned by E.H. to a little boy in 1930.

You can thank the actual Christopher Robin for Darby. A few years ago, he threw a fit saying that his father robbed him of his childhood and his stories and made a fortune. Somehow, Disney was unable to continue producing new cartoons with Christopher Robin because of this…
Sorry I don’t remember all the details. Sure someone knows them.
The Super Sleuth show does suck. Gads.
But I find a charm in the Disney version. I don’t think that the earlier movies are soulless at all. In fact, it drew me into the source material where my love for all things 100 Acres expanded.
