Photoshop version 1

The folks at Creative Bits take a tour of the first version of Adobe Photoshop, noting the lack of many of the key features that make the software what it is today… like, say, layers. Also, this gallery of splash screens for Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDRAW really take me back! (more splashes)

Awesome. I remember having a great time on Macpaint which looks very similar to this. Making a crazy scribble design, filling it with the brick pattern and then using the airbrush to do graffiti all over it was a favorite. Then watching a real, physical copy of my computer drawing come chugging out of the dot matrix…. magical.

actually, I cannot believe how many goodies it featured, for the time. I used to work in ClarisWorks at the time, in art school. God, this all seems so funny now :)

Ha! For years (before I had Photoshop) I was using Corel Photopaint 3 to edit all my images. I remember how excited I was the day I discovered how to use gradients… *snort*

It’s strange that they chose to do the tour in 1-bit monochrome–Photoshop could do 32-bit color from the start. (I should know–I still have my PS 1.0 floppies.) You had to have the best hardware to take full advantage of it. I guess some things don’t change.
