Plight of the Bumblebee

A bit of animation history to go with Ward’s future-of-animation post. This early unfinished Mickey Mouse short is fun to see, if only for the fact that it is all still in pencils.

    Fantastic to see that! Love the pencil tests.

    It's also a very interesting look at a time before political correctness as far as alcoholism goes! Drunkenness always makes great comic fodder, I love the “How Dry I am” in old cartoons. These days, though, you'd be hard pressed to find a cartoon like this unless it had a happy ending, with the bee drying out at Betty Ford… a few rooms down from Lindsay Lohan, perhaps.
