Heh… R Stevens takes a jab at Family Guy in this recent Diesel Sweeties strip. I’m glad someone else out there recognizes how crappy a show it is.

The diesel Sweets strip sucks! I mean wow “watch me use the same formula I’m critiquing to make a shallow critique on an excellent show.” And I mean cmon, the Kool Aid was like the funniest things I had ever seen animated and its prime time!!!

Family Guy might not be everyone’s taste, but I think it is hilarious. The whole critiquing of Family Guy’s randomness and non-sequitors has been done before. And done better. By South Park and the Simpsons.

Last time I checked this site is called Drawn! And honestly, whether you like their vomitesque style of writing, you gotta admit Family Guy is one fugly show.

I’m hoping that “vomitesque” refers to the Family Guy and not the Drawn! people.
Okay, so this is my take on all this: I didn’t like Family Guy right off the bat because of the terrible look and design. When it got its second wind from DVD sales and on TBS, I gave it another shot. For a while I did enjoy the goofy send ups and gags, but you know, after about 5 episodes, it got old. Very old. Stale and dry old. It didn’t help when the creator went on several talk shows and showed us just how incredibly smug and arrogant he really was. But hey — this is simply my opinion. Whatever.

Family Guy to me was a pretty funny joke that kept on being told over and over again, until it stopped being funny but decided to tell it anyway..

Tell you what…why don’t some of you schmoes get off your asses and make something good. Great even. That’s what I intend to do. You don’t like the culture that’s being served up to you, consider that America gets the culture she deserves. Someone else said that a century ago and it’s only become more true. As China and India render our nations ambitious B+ students redundant and obsolete, think of ways that we can enhance arts programs and creative awareness in this country. It’s the ONLY thing that’s going to keep us afloat. “The C’s teach the B’s not to follow the A’s”.
Think outside the box.
If I showed Fox that they were wrong in canceling my show, making it the first show ever brought out of cancellation, plus it remained irreverent AND it was something that I loved doing? I’d be fucking smug, too.
Wake up. Put down the Gameboys. Pick up a pencil. Change your lives.

I’m sorry Johnny, but I’ve been a fan of this blog for more than a couple years and I check it daily, but I’ve never read a post as blatantly biased as this. Were you having a bad day and wrote this on a whim?
Maybe someone should explain to you that comedy is like the illustration you blog about: very subjective, and therefore it should be approached without so much of your personal sentiment.

This site posts news of beautiful artwork and illustration everyday from around the world: few or no comments from people, no reaction. But then something gets posted about Family Guy, and everyone’s up in arms. I don’t get it. Why aren’t people reacting to all art this way?

To bagha- this is a blog based entirely on bias. The whole purpose of Drawn! Is to say, “Hey here is some stuff and my opinion on it!” Sure, most of the opinion is positive, but to keep quiet about something one doesn’t like for fear of offending someone who does like it seems a bit cowardly. To accuse the person who wrote a negative opinion of doing so because they had “a bad day” is avoiding the true issue at hand- the quality of the work being discussed. In Johnnny’s opinion Family Guy is not so hot.
