Rankin-esque Apple ad for Christmas

This wonderfully Rankin-esque “get a Mac” ad has been making the rounds on animation and Mac geek blogs all week. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention it. Cute overload on this one – I dare you to try and watch it only once.

According to Cartoon Brew, it was directed and animated by Drew Lightfoot (The Corpse Bride), with character design by Shane Prigmore, at LAIKA/house.

    This is a cute ad, and would’ve been awesome earlier. But more and more companies are digging in this nostalgia mine and these ads are starting to lose their charm.

    I’m with MattT: there’s a whole bunch of Rankin-esque commercials out this winter, shilling everything from Alltel Wireless to some semi-obscure big box store. The Apple ones are, of course, a cut above the rest, but the style seems a little played out by now.

    But maybe that’s just the Grinch in me :-)
