This two-tone look really works well with his line art. Using feathering in the second color is a nice approach. Looks like he’s just gotten started with this style, so I’m sure we can look forward to even better stuff to come. I wonder if he uses ink, or whether it’s all done with a tablet? The marks look very organic, so I’m guessing brush, but is the second color something he does on a lightbox, and then later recomposites? Also the turtles are great.

Congratulations, Ray.
I hope you don’t forget all your peeps on your road to illustration super-stardom.
It’s awesome that you can do all this purely with a tablet.
I think that they could use a helmet, though…

I was also wondering if he was using ink or a tablet, having just re-discovered the joys of inking myself. Anyway there’s a video near the bottom of the page showing him drawing with a tablet. Damn, I still hate tablets. Kudos to anyone who can get coax good drawings out of them.

Thanks for the positive responses, all! The whole thing, from pencils, to inks, to colors was drawn in Painter IX.5 (as is most everything I do).
This is a new thing for me, but I really feel like I found myself with it. Definitely look forward to doing more!
