Relief-block prints of modern music masters

This portrait of Muddy Waters is part of an exhibition of relief-block prints by artist Stephen Alcorn entitled Modern Music Masters. The series “pays homage to the men and women who bridged the gaps between tradition and innovation, craft and genius, entertainment and art, music and poetry, composition and improvisation, black and white.”

Wow, these are are all so beautiful! I love the portraits of Joan Baez and Kurt Cobain, and Lou Reed and Bjork… the techniques are amazing.

Back in September 2005, you had a post – http://drawn.ca/2005/09/30/john-alcorn/ – about Stephen’s father, John Alcorn. On Stephen’s gallery site – http://www.alcorngallery.com/ – is also a gallery of photography from his brother Tommy, who tragically passed away at the age of 17. As you can see, beautiful artwork runs in the Alcorn family veins.
