Renato Alarcão

The most difficult part of posting a link to the work of Renato Alarcão is choosing which image to use. His collection of children’s book illustrations, in particular, is a goldmine of marvelous pieces of artwork like this one. And the website ain’t too shabby either

Definitely. This is really some beautfiul work, and his sketchbooks have some great mixed media experimentation in them, each spread a little mini composition. I’d love to get a better look at the books these came from.

If the bandwidth is exceeded, does that mean I won’t be able to see his work until he finds a new website? How does this work?

z, it means he needs to pay for a bandwidth increase or we wait till his next billing cycle when the counter gets reset.

I wish I could see the work now. The one piece looks great.

[...] Your Drawn! link of the day: Drawn! links to the website of Brazillian illustrator Renato Alarcão, complete with an intriguing illustration. Alas, the artist’s site was subsequently removed for exceeding its bandwidth, demonstrating Drawn!’s seeming newfound power to Slashdot other people’s websites. [...]

    Hi there,
    This is Renato Alarcão.
I am very happy and surprised for having had my website featured here in Drawn. That’s cool!
My site had a record number of visitors in the past 2 days (about 3000 people wente there), and for this reason it collapsed (or better saying, it “exceeded bandwidth and such…”)
I called the internet provider and they gave me 50gb as an appology. I invite you all to come back and see the images.
Thanks and sorry for all the frustrated expectations.

More Renato Alarcão images can be found (posted by permission) at http://www.thepalaceat2.blogspot.com, including quite a few proposal/preliminary drawings for jacket/cover illustration (the “search this blog” function turns up some of them, and others are close by those posts)–and more are on the related website. There are some quotes from him as well.

His work is quite varied and wonderful!

This is the stuff! Images that penetrate both the subject and the viewer. Thank You.
Some mention should be made as to the exquisite site design. Natural and flowing ui that removes the computer from the experience. It’s actually worthy of the artist.

Possibly the best flash based website I’ve ever seen, certainly the best I’ve seen this year. I viewed every single image on the site…too friggin’ good.

I LOVE the astronomy illustration. I would pay to have it as a print–is there any where this is available? The lines and colors and ideas in it are simply incredible.

Try writing Alarcao via his website. Most of the illustrators today have already discovered the potential of selling high quality prints of their work

I saw the number of comments and I was like “uh-oh, is this guy ‘controversial’?” But it turns out that folks were just in awe of how good he is. Such magnificent work!

[...] One of my latest inspirations comes from a blog about illustration called Drawn!. One of last week’s posts featured the work of Brazilian illustrator Renato Alarcão. His web site is a visual treat of some of the loveliest illustrations I’ve seen in a while and this handmade book of illustrations which ranks as my favorite work on the web site. The whole site is mostly in Portueguse, but we’re looking at illustrations, right? The web site is also done entirely in Flash, so if your web browser can take it, zoom over to the web site and prepare to be wowed. [...]
