Ryan Carriere Memorial

Toronto comic artist, Ryan Carriere was killed on Monday night while riding his bike home from work. I’d like to offer my most sincere condolences to Ryan’s friends and family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in June. He was warm and kind and had a genuine love for comics that shone through in his little hand-crafted home publications. He also put up a couple out-of-town artists for the week-end and volunteered at comics and zine events throughout the year.

As a tribute, Chris Butcher has posted some of Ryan’s comics. Chris also points us to the USS Catastrophe store where some of Ryan’s mini-comics are still for sale.

A public memorial bike ride and vigil will be held next Tuesday, November 7.

    Such sad news.
I also had met Ryan in Toronto this summer, and had really liked his mini comic. My deepest sympathies to his friends and family :(

I had just seen Mr. Carriere’s single page comic in the Toronto Comics Festival book… I have been thinking of putting together a comics anthology on the theme of the natural world, so I did a web search for his contact information. I was truly saddened by this news. My sympathies to his friends and family. I wish I could have known him.
