Science Illustration

You’re looking at an image of neurotransmitters at a synapse by medical illustrator Graham Johnson. It was the winner of the 2005 Science Magazine and NSF Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge and is part of the best science illustration of 2005. Eva at Eastern Blot (a great blog about all the fun parts of science) has many more links about scientific illustration, including this story about careers in science illustration.

    I’ve loved your blog since the beginning, but now I love it even more. I’ve been interested in illustration for a long time, but I’m aspiring to become a scientific illustrator so this was a real treat. Thanks :)

    You’re work is amazing! I’ve just started doing medical illustration for http://www.plasticsurgery.com but my work is very simple in comparison to you’re pieces. I’m 19 years old from Brisbane Australia; I don’t have any training as such so I’m finding some areas a little difficult. I would love to study it however Brisbane is slightly lacking courses in that area. I’d love it if you could take a look at the website above and my weblog. Thanks.
