Sin City: From Page to Screen

The folks over at Film Rotation have made a side-by-side comparison of stills from the Sin City movie trailer and panels lifted directly from Frank Miller’s comics. The results are amazing. If these are just stills from the trailer, I can’t begin to imagine how closely the entire movie mimicks the visuals of the original source material. I suppose it’s no wonder that Frank Miller himself is credited as the film’s co-director.

I saw a sneak preview of the movie last night, and it’s fantastic. I haven’t gotten a chance to read the comic books, but I’ve flipped through them, and even doing that you notice the great attention to detail in the film to make it appear as the comic did. It’s really an amazing thing to see.

I was planning on seeing Sin City opening weekend but this post heightens the excitement. Talk about seeing a movie from the storyboards to finish…this is tight.

Reviews have been bad. This seems to often happen with overly stylized movies. The focus is so much on style that the movie as a movie suffers. I have yet to see this movie and will wait to see.

I’ve actually seen a lot of good reviews — the Rotten Tomatoes ranking is 75% and Ebert gave it 4 stars. I’ll hold judgment til I see it myself, but if anything I know I can expect some nice visuals.

For me personally, this film is critic-proof. I’m gonna see it, and I’m probably gonna like it.

Oh, I can’t wait to see it! If the story is like in the comics, then I’m gonna like it.

PS: Did you guys find this through my link suggestion, or did you already know about it? I’m wondering if I’m cool or just a big fat meme. I don’t know if my link suggestions get through.

mr blank – i’m sure i speak for all the others when i thank you sincerely for your link suggestion!

the first instalment of this comic was near perfect, visually. so if anyone hasn’t read it, i urge you to do so, independent of how good the movie is.

FILM ROTATION: SIN CITY Comparisons take frames from the SIN CITY trailer and put them up next to panels from the actual books. The result is amazing. I’m so looking forward to this movie!

I just saw the movie a few hours ago, really enjoyed it, especially all the white blood and boobies. I did find it dragging in places, but overall liked it. They pull no punches in this movie, that is for sure, gratuitous violence ala ‘Kill Bill’ abound.

Sin City Comic to Film comparisons

I wasn’t very excited about Sin City’s adaptation, mainly because these tend to be pretty average or dismal, plus Sin City has a very specific look to it. I also didn’t know anything about the movie, which helps not being excited.

    BUT.
