Sjors Vervoort’s CARDBOARD

I don’t read Dutch, but I can tell that Sjors Vervoort is a newly graduated animator from the Netherlands. Beyond that, I’ll need a good translator for his website, but not for this great stop-motion/hand-painted hybrid animation, made with painted bits of cardboard inserted in the streets of (I assume) the Netherlands.

(Thanks, Julia!)

hm. i call shenanigans. this looks like a lazy attempt at copying MUTO ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuGaqLT-gO4) by using digital cheats instead of actual cardboard.

It is actual cardboard, according to the site more than 800 carboard boxes are used. It’s just that the cardboard animation is placed in the environment afterwards, unlike MUTO’s wallpaintings.

I don’t really care how it’s made, the endresult is awesome!

Much does reek of some After Effect wizardy but it is still a very nice animation. I love the character designs.

I agree. Unfortunately it doesn’t look authentic; shadows are not consistent and I don’t see any people looking at the ‘cut-outs’. This begs the question “why try to make it look like a cardboard cut-out?”. Other than that, I think it’s still cool.

I wonder, do I browse around so badly. I can’t seem to find any text on his website. Thus does not seem to be a problem if you are not dutch. Which I am anyway.
