I agree! He was a great editor and gave the comics he wrote a light hearted sense of fun that they’re missing these days. He didn’t take his characters or himself too seriously. And he had this great PT Barnumesque hyperbolic tone that made everything seem just a little more special and exciting than it probably was. It’s really hard not to like the guy.

On the subject of the artists in the show–a quick Wikipedia search would tell them just what characters Lee co-created–afterall, it is a tribute to Stan, and yes, Stan does, on occassion tend to be a little bit of a glory hound.

i actually got to meet stan lee at the opening of this show! to be fair to him, i don’t think all the artists or FANS knew what characters stan created. one fan yelled out “i love wolverine!” to which stan replied “best character i never wrote!”

also, i LOVE jack kirby and steve ditko but stan does deserve credit for writing and popularizing marvel comics as much as he does for co-creating so many of its characters.

Though there are some nice paintings here, some of the characters, like Wolverine and Captain America, Lee had no hand in creating. Sometimes he tends to get credit for the whole kit and kaboodle, and it aint so, though I would give him more credit than many. Still, it irks me when he’s miscredited with the creations of others.
