Steam Wars

steamwars.jpgGiant steampunk robots? Squeee!

STEAM WARS is the creation of Larry Blamire; artist, actor and writer-director of the indie cult film THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA, released by Sony Pictures. The concept began as an image from a mural he painted in high school and over the years has become something of a “dream project”, in paintings, stories, copious notes, film treatment, and–eventually–film itself.

(Thanks, Soma!)

Those robots are pretty dang cool. There is just something about a towering robot with a plumes of smoke coming out of her stacks that really gets my electricity going. It is about time Larry made it on drawn! Good show!

Its refreshing to see an original retro vision like this. It looks like a lot of thought went into it. Steamboy had nice, original designs, but the narative didn’t quite hold together, and Sky Captain suffered from the homogeneity of it’s pastiche look and story. If “Steam Wars” as a story holds up as well as its designs, maybe something interesting might come of this.
