[...] Stella Im Hultberg is an incredible painter and illustrator based in New York City. Interestingly, her background is in toy design and industrial design and she only started showing in galleries last year. Her beautiful work makes me think of Egon Schiele and Ralph Steadman meeting in one of Aubrey Beardsley’s absinthe dreams. Seen here, “after my dreams are dreamed out,” 2006, ink, watercolor, tea on paper, 10″ x 8″. Link (via Drawn!) [...]

There is a fine line between paying homage to Schiele and directly copying him.

David Pescovitz notes that Stella's work, which I agree is very beautiful, makes him think of Egon Schiele. Well, it would surprise me if Stella hadn't studied Schiele as several of here drawings, including poses are direct interpretations of Schiele works, which is not a bad thing at all. It would be thrilling to see someone continue and expand upon what Schiele started since his life was cut short at his creative prime. Bravo! I wouldn't mind owning a couple of her works before she is "discovered" and priced out of my ability to purchase.
