Stop motion animation using LED light

Light-Paint Piano Player from Ryan Cashman on Vimeo.

We’ve seen artists use LED lights and long exposures to create some wonderful drawings and even graffiti, but here’s a unique approach, applying the process to stop motion animation.

(Thanks PK!)

This is a super cute example of the pika-pika technique! TOCHKA has been making these animations for the last four years, all over Japan and all over the world. They invite anyone to join them, giving workshops on the technique to non artists and creating rough animations with them. Also do live pika-pika creation at art events, music festivals etc, world wide. The ever growing compilation of their films has been in animation festivals (like Ottawa’06 international animation festival where it won an honorable mention).

Its nice to see more people playing around with the technique to great effect!

Also check out Lichtfaktor’s light animations.
