What Things Do

What Things Do: an online comics offering from Jordan Crane, Ted May, and Sammy Harkham. Comics from these three gents, displayed large, and in my RSS reader? Yes please.

Check out the already-awesome archives. For example, Crane himself has posted all three issues of Uptight as well as some of his other smaller self-published offerings.

Robbert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine – We R Super Heroes

What a great way to start my day — watching this music video for Robbert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine.

The super-powered video features the work of over a dozen different comics artists including Jordan Crane, Farel Dalrymple, the Powerpuff Girls’ Craig McCracken, Tim Sievert, Chris McDonnell, and more.

Your ears aren’t fooling you, either; Robbert is indeed the kids-music-pseudonym of Robert Schneider, better known as frontman of indie popsters Apples in Stereo.

Edit: Dan Efram writes in to add:

Robbert Bobbert is being developed into a television series by Puny Entertainment and Carolyn Suzuki, the animation team behind Nickelodeon’s Yo Gabba Gabba show and the Creative Producer who has developed and produced hits for the Disney Channel and Cartoon Network, respectively.

Nobrow Magazine

I recently received a copy of Nobrow Magazine, a new periodical created as a platform for artists and illustrators. Limited to 3000 numbered copies, the magazine is gorgeously printed in just two spot colours, and features the work of folks like Jordan Crane, Mcbess, Stuart Kolakovic, Paul Blow, Toby Leigh, Sam Arthur, and others. It’s a decently sized book at about 9.5″ x 13.5″, and the work looks great shown at such nice big size. Can’t wait for issue 2.

This is great. Check out these photos of Jordan Crane’s elaborate cover art for Michael Chabon’s latest book, Maps and Legends. The cover features an impressive triple-bellyband.

Uptight All Night

cranecard.jpgYowza… have you seen Jordan Crane’s latest? Uptight All Night is a book of 30 illustrated postcards. I just ordered my copy, and can’t wait to hold it in person — as if Crane’s work wasn’t lovely enough, the offset printing is sure to make these cards true works of art.
