Maira Kalman & the Pursuit of Happiness

One of my favorite children’s book illustrators is Maira Kalman. Imaginative, colorful and witty, Maira’s work appeals to a vast audience, from children to the New York Times set. From May 2006 to April 2007, she ran a “column” for the New York Times Op-Extra, which ended up being published as a book: The Principles of Uncertainty. She’d been on hiatus since 2007, but has finally returned with a wonderful account of the Inauguration titled, The Inauguration. At Last.

Welcome back, Maira.

Chris Ware ends his run at the New York Times

Chris Ware has published the last of his 29-page comic series Building Stories for the New York Times Magazine’s Funny Pages. All 29 pages are available for download in PDF format at the NYT website. (You may have to register at the site, but remember: bugmenot is your friend).

UPDATE:
Seems like the New York Times has taken down Chris Ware’s stuff. If anyone knows of a mirror please let us know (or if you managed to get all of them, perhaps we can host a mirror for a bit).

UPDATE 2:
We got ahold of the PDFs, and put them in one big (65Meg) .zip file here for a bit in case you missed them. Thanks, Matthew!
