The advertising art of Dr. Seuss

The doctor named Seuss is well known for books

Some ad art for sugar, some ad art for clocks,
Some ad art for shaving cream inside a box,
Some ad art for bug spray, some ad art for beer
To heck with this rhyming. Go on, now, click here!

Update:
Tim in the comments says, “wait there is more!”
“You mustn’t forget Geisel’s take on the war!

There’s also a wonderful collection of his political cartoons.

One interesting cartoon that the political cartoon site left out is a comment on Japanese Americans. It shows an impossibly long line of Californian Japanese Americans lining to be given TNT by the “Honorable Fifth Column”. The title “Waiting for a signal from home” suggested that Japanese Americans were more Japanese than American and ostensibly justified internment.

I find it hard to believe that the man who drew this cartoon:

is the same one that drew this one:

I’m not sure why it would be hard to believe that the same guy drew the two cartoons – one if February and one in June, 1942. February is still really close to December 7th. Perhaps the perspective of additional time and perhaps even a personal experience allowed him to revise his opinion. That does happen occasionally, y’know…
