The Character Design Blog

Taking the concept of blogging to another level, The Character Design Blog is a blog entirely devoted to, well, character design. With each artist featured, there’s an interview and a portfolio showcasing some of the subjects’ work. Being up for only a couple of weeks, there’s already some fantastic talent mentioned, including some past Drawn! mentionables like Steven Silver, Robin Joseph (Patch of Orange), and Robh Ruppel.

For any aspiring artist trying to make it into illustration or animation (or any other aspect of The Biz), this is a very valuable source of info to have because of the questions being asked, like how the artists got into the business, what helped them become the artists that they are today, and what to put in your portfolio and what to keep out. This site is highly recommended.

This sounds SO cool! I wanted to be an animator back in the day, but like a lot of kids do, I changed my mind. Now I want to be a freelance illustrator with aspirations of being as good as Peter de Seve. This blog sounds perfect.

Alright Ward. A while back I posted something that you had plans to post about. This time you’ve done it to me. We’re even! ;)

This is a nice site. Though I haven’t had the chance to sit down and read all the interviews, what I have read has been quite nice.

It doesn’t work for me in Firefox; I just get a blank page, possibly because some ad loading script fails. And it’s extremely hard to read text on black background on my 19″ 1600×1200 monitor. :(

I just checked it out in Firefox, and you’re right: it kinda just stops loading and then a white page. I’ll try and email the guy. Thanks for the heads-up.

Awsome blog, but I agree: long interviews + reversed type = hard to read.

    And fix those paragraph breaks!
