The Howie Post

post

Click on pic. So… who have I come to praise? Is it the Howie Post responsible for originating the coolest two creeps from the Harvey Comics line, Hot Stuff, the little Devil (perennial subject of many a tatoo), and Spooky, the tuff little ghost? With that super-slick ink line that defined kids comics from the ’50′s to the ’70′s? Or is it the Howie Post responsible for those groovy ’60′s comics like Angel and the Ape and Anthro
with their cute girls and Ramona Fradon-style illustrations? Maybe I’m on about newspaper strip cartoonist Howard Post, who did the popular ’70′s and ’80′s Dropouts comic, with it’s timely Jonny Hart/ Brant Parker minimalist ‘sketchy’ style? Yes to all of the above. No wonder he was hired to teach at the SVA. Sheesh, what a career!

I had no idea Spooky and Hot Stuff were from the same pen! (I’d rather have a Spooky tattoo myself, tho)

Man, I grew up on this stuff. Loved Spooky and Hot Stuff – we always had a big stack of those books on vacation trips.
