I’m glad Bill stopped doing that crass cartoon crap and has started making real art now. Seriously though, it’s always nice to see artists stretch out and challenge themselves visually.

What did you mean with “crass cartoon crap”? That’s a very limited vision… A real artist is the one who respect all kind of art, all styles, all expressions and is allways curious, allways seeking something new, in all fields (could be cartoon, fine arts or all other “crap”like you said).
I’m not glad he stopped but I’m glad he don’t have a vision like yours, he did cartoons, and I’m sure he learned something from that. So do you?

El Tosco — Amid was being sarcastic. Click on his name if you doubt his appreciation of cartoons.

Everybody knows you can’t make any money off of cartoons, right? I mean, sheesh!
Oh wait — I do. Never mind.
I love it when artists stretch to different visions. It does an artist good.

Oh my, I find those paintings terribly kitschy. Palet knife calender paintings. Is it irony?

Great new stuff from Mr.Wray! I love it! An artist evolves and sometimes a cartoonist stays stagnant, so it’s good to see change from someone so talented!

Bill Wray discusses this a little on the Comics Journal message board:
His new paintings aren’t my kind of thing, but I think artists have to have their hearts in their work (ideally, art should be a labor of love, not just work). If an artist’s current stuff isn’t keeping them interest, it might be time to try something new.

Wow. That’s really interesting to see what he’s working on now. Ren & Stimpy was fantastic and it only makes sense that such a talented painter was doing the work.

So many people believe artists should only use one “style”… fun cartoons, serious art, etc. But like all creative expression, or life in general-there are serious subjects and fun subjects. Any real artist can operate more than one type of brush. Way to go Wray.

Something in the way you paint manages to evoke happy feelings and
memories from my childhood. I don’t intend to try to analyze it, I’m
just content to enjoy it.
Thank you very much for sharing your work via the web.
