The Other Side

cameron_theotherside

There’s a five page preview for Cameron Stewart’s (Catwoman, Apocalypstix) new mini-series, The Other Side, over at Warren Ellis’ Chip Zdarsky’s indy-comics forum, The Engine. Cameron was carrying some early galleys for the book around at the NYCC this year and I can personally vouch that the rest of the pages look this good. Hits comic shops in October.

Fun Fact #1: Cameron actually went to Vietnam to research the book.

Fun Fact #2: The book is written by newcomer, Jason Aaron. He mailed the script to Vertigo on spec.

Now I’m going to mail a script to Vertigo on spec. You do it too and see how happy we can make the editors at DC!

Wow… it looks amazing. Will it be printed in gorgeous black and white like this, or be muddied up with unnecessary colour?

That’s exactly my concern too! I really hope they have the sense to just leave the inks alone.

It reminds me of Death of a Salesman. It has the necessary drama; you can almost feel a story unfolding in this masterpiece, but not all the attention is focused there. Very nice balance of entertainment and structured shading.

Hi all – thanks very much for the positive comments! To Matt and Johnny – the book will be in colour, which is causing some consternation in a lot of people apparently, but the colours are being done by Vancouver’s own Dave McCaig, who is one of my favourite colourists in comics and I have complete certainty that he’s going to do a spectacular job. Maybe I’ll put together a second teaser when I have some of the coloured pages…

Just make that pic of the screaming soldier your cover- u’ll sell a million copies. That’s one of the most intense things rendered in pen and ink I have ever seen in my life.

Reminds me of The ‘Nam. Marvel’s vietnam comic made in the late eighties.
