Tommy Kane

Tommy Kane is an art director who actually draws and paints himself (how novel!). His print advertising has a decidedly illustrative feel to it, and I love his paintings of pop culture icons, like good old Barney Fife seen here. I may like his journals the most, however… nothing like a quality sketchbook, is there?

And of course, what’s a creative individual these days without a blog?

    haven’t checked the site yet, but the drips on the piece shown look like a horrible afterthought. the portraits nice. i’m going to look at more now.

    I’ll give him points for sticking to a theme, at least. I’m not sure either, of the signifigance or compositional relevance of the drips. Is it a Jasper Johns reference? Seems like he committed to this idea and stuck with it, but maybe the idea wasn’t so great to start with.

    Great renderings though.
