Wacom sent me an email about availability a couple weeks back. I should be picking one up in late January or early February. I’m really glad they introduced this model, as I had no idea when I’d be able to afford a 21UX!

Might even trade in my Intuos3. :-)

    Well…it seams to work well.
But something shock me a little…it’s the eu price. I mean, why we must pay nearly 200% of the us price. Ok it’s a little terre à terre. They don’t have to translate … the pen…no?

Quite so, slDavid. In USA, $1000 or so. In UK (no, they don’t even translate the instructions or the box) £839 = $1600. Hmmmm.

I guess this is one of the tools we’ve been expecting for a long time. It looks just perfect to me, except for a couple of little things including the size. I wrote an article in my blog about the pros and cons of the digital technologies for illustrators and the tools that still need to be developed:
    http://www.intuitivedesigns.net/analog-vs-digital-pros-and-cons-in-digital-technology

If you are interested in the future of the virtual artist tools I think you may also like to check this link of some amazing Virtual Chinese Brush that has been developed:
    http://www.cs.ust.hk/~cpegnel/VCB/

I think Wacom should be thinking of implementing this technology into their devices the sooner the better! What do you think?

Nice review and vid. I’ve been working with my 12wx for about a week now and I’m already in love with it. Working on it is quite intuitive (much more than compared to a regular intuos tablet). My new blog is an online sketchbook dedicated to work I am doing on the Cintiq. I’m surprised nobody ever mentions the new 20″ model.

I really don’t see what all the hype is about. It looks like a cool toy but for that price I could buy 15 years worth of painting supplies.

actually, i agree with johnred. I love my intuos – drawing directly on the screen doesn’t appeal to me except for the momentary novelty. I can see why some would like it, but I think it would be like a glorified magnadoodle. I like the hand-eye coordination you build with the intuos – it actually helps inform your ability to draw from life, and it keeps you from hunching over and straining your back (rarely talked about benefits). If it was about 500 bucks, i’d think about buying a cintiq, but the last thing i need is another expensive piece of hardware. (Is it just me or do people act like $1000 isn’t alot of money anymore??)

Plus, wacom never did work the bugs out of the intuos. We have 4 of them at my work, and they are perpetually needing to be reinstalled because the software goes haywire.

I use the 21″ to do my Flash and illustration work, and I love it.
I got it at a deep discount from a former employer, and I don’t knowhow I managed without it.
It really helps to speed up the drawing process when you have to crank out the scenes.

I just – just – just got one of these last night. But all I have managed to do (so far) is to get everything plugged in (there really is a lot to plug in) and then spend some time sitting and staring at it.

    It glows.

    I like things that glow.

    I can’t wait get to start using it . . .

[and to pi6malion - $1000 is a ton of money - seriously - it is like 100,000 pennies - which by my crude calculations is something like 9071.8474 tons - or something like that - I think.]

I got one about 2 weeks ago. The had them in stock at Tekserve (NYC) and I’m loving it… Definitely way better than a regular wacom to draw… My only gripe is that it get pretty hot on the right side where your hand usually is resting most of the time. I wish they made a right hand/left hand version because it’s not hot at all on the left side…

I also had a little bit of a hard time to setup the tracking right at first, now it’s all good though. This + Painter X is really too much fun :)

I agree with slDavid: I was tempted to get myself one of these as a christmas present, but the idiotic pricing policy for Europe put me off indefinitely (~1150 Euros at the German branch of amazon, in other words: roughly 1700 US$). If the price was the equivalent of 1000 US$ (namely a little less than 700 Euros), I’d buy one right away.
