I slipped into the press preview of the Once Upon A Time Walt Disney: Sources of Inspiration for Disney Studios exhibition this morning and took as many photos as possible.
The exhibition was both overwhelming and exhilarating. The depth and range of illustration and concept art could have kept me busy for days.
But here are a couple highlights:
For me, the most exciting display was the original gouache concept art by Mary Blair. Design News describes Blair as, “one of Walt Disney’s favorite artists; [Disney] personally responded to her use of color, naïve graphics, and the storytelling aspect in her pictures”

I also notice there’s a book about her life and work which looks very good. But for now, I’ll settle for the postcard I bought in the shop.
More on Mary Blair:
The exhibit was also packed full of amazing watercolour concept art by Gustaf Tenggren.
