Women in Art morph

This is very interesting as a tour of art history’s it-girls – how exactly has the feminine ideal beauty changed over the centuries? Every era has its Barbie doll.

It’s interesting that of all the features the eyes remain the most constant.

watch the eyes, though. for more than the first third, none of them will meet yours.

this is a charming piece! however, I think likening these fantastic works of art to Barbie dolls is disturbing. If it had been a montage of paintings of men throughout history, would we say “every era has its Ken doll?” I doubt it.
p.s. I love Drawn! I just had to put in my couple of cents.

    Hi airlie,
Due to Western culture being rather harder on women than men for expecting them to live up to ideals of beauty, I would agree that you are right in saying that we would not remark that every era has its Ken doll. Hence my point. Painting of portraits – and the choices of the person who made this video – reflect those standards and expectations, as does Barbie. There is no insult if you happen to like Barbie ;) .
