World Animation Day events across Canada – October 28

The National Film Board of Canada (where I work part-time) is going whole hog celebrating World Animation Day this year. They’re hosting screenings and events across Canada – including master classes (open to the public) with Clyde Henry/ Tutli Putli directors, Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski. There’s also Hothouse animation screening presented by Drawn-fave, James Braithwaite (I Met The Walrus).

Check the listings to see what’s going on in the following cities: Montreal, Winnipeg, Toronto, Vancouver and Moncton.

The above image is from the short semi-abstract-industrial-deco-constructivist animation, Tower Bawher by Theodore Ushev – which you can watch in its entirety here.

Tower Bawher is a beautiful animation. More Constructivist, I think, than Deco. Nice music, too.

The National Film Board of Canada has been a true haven for animators at least what I can tell from the amount of quality animation that’s produced there :) Keep up the good work!

In the meantime at another spot on the globe there’s also things happening on animation day as Animatricks, an animation festival is held for the seventh time in Helsinki, Finland. There’s also gonna be a master class held by en esteemed veteran animator Paul Driessen who is of course also a member of the NFB. There’s gonna be a spotlight on dutch animation.

So if you happen to be around here on 24-28 of October, come and check what’s happening in finnish and baltic animation. More info: http://www.animatricks.net/2007/index.php?&page=home
