1989, Nick Park

Before Wallace and Gromit, there was Creature Comforts—Nick Park's first film (and winner of his first Academy Award). The short holds a permanent place in my Top Ten animated shorts of all time. I watched it so many times on VHS that it's a wonder I never wore out the tape completely.
Of course watching it once again now, years later with the world in lockdown, all these animals lamenting their confined living quarters has taken on new meaning entirely.
The short eventually spawned an entire series, but for my money none of the follow-ups managed to capture the charm of the original—a magic combination of finding the perfect interview subjects, pairing their voices with the perfect animals, and gluing it all together with Nick Park's brilliant animation and comic timing.
