In Doll Clothes, artist Cindy Sherman casts herself as a paper doll that comes to life. While admiring herself in a mirror, a human hand enters the frame and places her back into her laminated sleeve. Filmed in 8mm, Doll Clothes was made while Sherman was an art student at Buffalo State College, and foreshadows an entire career of using photography, costumes—and herself as a model—to examine themes of beauty and the objectification of women.
