Dreams and Desires: Family Ties

2006, Joanna Quinn

When I think of expressive, voluminous character animation, I think of Joanna Quinn. Her characters bounce and flex and move in an almost heightened sense of realism, despite the relatively low frame rate and loose drawing style. It's a kind of magic, I think. In this particular outing, her character and alter ego Beryl is seen from the POV of a camcorder, which adds yet another layer of manic energy to an already-disastrous comedy of errors.
