2002, Christopher Hinton

Many artists lament that their final work often loses the raw spontaneity of their preliminary sketches. I certainly struggle finding the right balance between ordered perfection and pure anarchy. So it's energizing to watch Christopher Hinton abandon all pretence of form and technique in favour of this naive, childlike drawing style, and for it to work as beautifully and perfectly as it does in Flux. Of course, any film that uses the image of a cow's udder to represent a raincloud is okay in my books.
