2008, David Coquard-Dassault

Today I'm sharing another personal favourite—L'Ondée, or Rains, by David Coquard-Dassault.
It's remarkable how much mood and atmosphere can be accomplished with limited animation and just the right sound design and music. Anyone who has been caught in an epic downpour will be immediately feel a familiar sense of helplessness.
Scenes of entire communities of apartment building residents being trapped in their homes, looking out at an inhospitable world, take on new meaning in the era of COVID-19 lockdowns. But the end of the short gives us something to look forward to—the rain cannot last forever. The clouds will part, the sky will clear, and we will once again feel the sun shining down on us.
