Swatch Young Ilustrators Award

YIA2009Logo_10cmX10cm

There is just over a month left to submit work to the Illustrative Festival’s Swatch Young Illustrators Award.

The nominees of the Swatch Young Illustrators Award will be invited to Berlin and get the opportunity to exhibit their work at Illustrative 2009 in Berlin. The winners await prizes worth 6.000 Euros as well as publications and illustration agency contracts and will also be featured in future international shows. One winner will be invited to design a Swatch Watch – a great opportunity to join the ranks of artists such as Kiki Picasso, Pedro Almodóvar, Robert Altman and Keith Haring.

Submissions are due September 30 (details here). And despite the name of the award, there is no maximum age limit for competitors (though you must be over 21).

Canadian Shuster Awards adds Webcomic category

Well, looks like it’s awards season around here.

The Shuster Awards for Canadian Comic Creators (say that 10x fast) are accepting submissions for their new Webcomics Award.

They already have a really exciting list – including such luminaries as Butternut Squash, Dinosaur Comics, A Softer World, Troglodytes, Suspicious Polo Players and a ton of other great comics – so head on over and check them out – and if you have a webcomic, add it to the list.

Caveat Emptor
: You have to be a Canadian to enter. Don’t kill the messenger.

2007 Bloggies: vote for Drawn!

The nominations are in for the 2007 Bloggies, and Drawn! is up for two awards this year! Please head on over and cast your votes for Drawn! in the categories of Best Canadian Weblog and Best Topical Weblog.

It’s actually kind of funny that the preview image for Drawn! is our “we’ll be back soon” page — to think we made the nominations without actually having been online during the process.

Thanks in advance for your vote(s), and thanks for your continued readership!

John Canemaker’s Oscar experience

canemaker.jpgOur very own Ward Jenkins has just posted the second half of an incredibly in-depth interview with animator/animation-historian John Canemaker about his experience of being nominated for, and subsequently winning, the Academy Award for best animated short in 2006 for The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation.

Be sure, too, to watch the video of John’s adventures in the limo ride leading up to the ceremony.
