The City of Vancouver – home to the Olympic Winter Games as of right now – is only a little over 100 years old. It never had a lot in the way of local printing and publishing, but some of the local businesses’ ads that ran in local directories have been posted by the City Archives. It’s a treat to see the old fonts, and the selection of businesses really tells us something about the state of the city a century ago: meat globules, fish, coal, tents, and “disappearing furniture”!

Don’t know about you, but I’m excited about the new season premiere of LOST coming up (Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 9PM EST, in case you didn’t know). Designer Ty Mattson of Mattson Creative can’t wait either. In fact, while designing an invite to the premiere at his home, he came up with several cool retro-style poster designs. I’d love to see some of these available as actual printed posters.
Brand New offers up a look at the most relevant identity work of the decade. Not simply a best-of list, this look at the last ten years of corporate branding includes the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m looking at you, Pepsi.
