Hallowindow: animated window displays for Halloween

This is so great! If I lived in a ground-level house, I’d do something like this in my windows for sure. Mark Gervais uses Flash and After Effects to create these amazing Halloween animations that he projects onto his windows on Halloween. He’s selling DVDs, too, so you can spook up your own windows or party walls.

Super Furry Animals – Drygioni

Here’s a fun unoffical animated music video by Paul Rayment which he created for the song Drygioni by Super Furry Animals. The crazy neon characters seem to match the vibe of the band perfectly.

Viva Calaca!!

Viva Calaca!! is a personal project from animator/designer Ritxi Ostáriz. The animated short with music by Voltaire, is a tribute to Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations.

Heavy Petting titles

I like the clean illustration and user-manual design of this credit sequence for upcoming indie rom com Heavy Petting. Illustrations by Josh McKible.

Save the planet while brushing your teeth

Justin Young’s short animated film The Journey illustrates how something as simple as turning off the tap while you brush your teeth can help the fight against global climate change.

Crayon Physics Deluxe

This awesome new game brings your drawings to life. Draw a ball and watch it fall, draw an incline and watch the ball roll down. A demo version is available for download on the official site.

Looks like it’s based on this MIT software (watch the demo here) which everyone was blogging about last year.

It also looks like the game requires a tablet. Could be another fun way to use the Wacom Cintiq.

Susan Bradley and Typography at Pixar

pixartype.jpg

Thunder Chunky offers up an interview with Pixar title designer Susan Bradley. This choice quote, I think, can be applied to the typography of any creative pursuit, whether it be a website, graphic novel, or animated film:

Film titles certainly welcome you and wave goodbye in a very crucial and visceral way, but I don’t think they have much weight as it relates to “success”, unless that’s all the film has going for it. I think the biggest mistake is seeing the title sequence as separate from its film. In my opinion, they can do very much or very little; but really shine when they live within the story and reflect an important quality driven by your Director.
